Dr. James Murphy - Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon in Chicago

Dr. James Murphy grew up in southwest Ireland in County Cork. He received his medical and dental degrees from University College Cork in Ireland. Dr. Murphy completed his residency training in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore Maryland. Following residency he completed a fellowship in Head and Neck Oncology and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Michigan. He subsequently worked as a fellow in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery with a special interest in Craniofacial Surgery at Rush University Medical Center. Dr.Murphy is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and is a diplomate of the American Board of Oral and
Maxillofacial Surgery.

Dr. Murphy’s clinical and research interests include the treatment of oral cavity tumors, both benign and malignant, head and neck reconstruction including microvasclar free flap surgery, salivary gland tumors, orthognathic surgery and craniofacial disorders, obstructive sleep apnea surgery in particular maxillomandibular advancement, disorders of the temporomandibular joint including joint replacement, and head and neck trauma patients. Dr. Murphy has presented on these topics both nationally and internationally.

Dr. Murphy is a site visitor for the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) for Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Programs. He holds faculty appointments at both Rush University and Cook County Health and is involved in resident training
