Book nowWhat Is an ENT Specialist?
Otolaryngology is the study of conditions affecting the ears, nose, and throat, which is where the term “ENT” comes from. ENT specialists devote years of their medical education to the field of otolaryngology, making them the ideal professionals for treating ENT issues. They have the ability to look for symptoms and behaviors specific to otolaryngological issues that can dramatically improve a patient’s quality of life.
Some of the most common issues an Ear Nose and Throat doctor treats include:
- Sleep apnea and snoring
- Chronic ear infections
- Hearing loss
- Recurrent tonsillitis and sore throats
- Allergies
- Sinusitis and other congestion issues
- Swallowing and vocal issues
- Head and neck tumors/masses
ENT Conditions We Treat
There is a wide range of ear, nose, and throat conditions we treat here at OMHNA, and our specialists are trained and experienced in all of them. Whether your condition is mild and temporary, chronically troublesome, or urgent and severe, we’re confident in our abilities to provide you with the best care possible.
Ear Conditions We Treat:
Chronic Ear Infections: Ear infections that are chronic (persistent and recurring) can lead to long term hearing loss and speech issues.
Hearing Loss: Hearing loss can be gradual or sudden, and has a long list of potential causes. Our ENTs can help with diagnosis and treatment.
Tinnitus: Tinnitus is the common occurrence of intermittent or continuous sound in one or both ears. Treatment of this condition is most successful with an ENT specialist.
Nasal Conditions We Treat:
Nasal Congestion: Chronic or persistent nasal congestion can have a variety of causes and treatments. An ENT specialist has the knowledge and tools to determine the source.
Sinusitis: Sinusitis is an inflammation of the tissue in the sinuses and the nose, and chronic symptoms can be difficult to treat without the help of a specialist.
Allergies: Whether you’re looking to determine which allergies you have, or are simply looking for relief, we can help.
Throat Conditions We Treat
Throat Pain: A sore throat often brings you to your general practitioner, but persistent, severe, and chronic sore throats often require diagnosis and treatment from an ENT specialist.
Tonsillitis: ENT doctors can help you determine whether or not tonsillitis requires surgery or other treatment.
Voice Disorders: From hoarseness and voice strain to vocal cord nodules, we can help diagnose and treat these disorders.
Head and Neck Masses and Tumors
Abnormal masses and lumps in the neck and head are often caused by issues that are best treated by an otolaryngology professional.

Schedule an Appointment
If you are interested in receiving care from the specialists here at OMHNA, the most thorough place to start is with your primary care physician, who can send you to us as a referral alongside your relevant medical history. FAQs
Do I need a referral to see an ENT?
No, OMHNA will see you without a referral, but we do recommend trying to get one from your primary care physician first. Seeing your PCP for an issue first can often help you find relief on a more basic level, without the need for a specialist. If an ear nose and throat doctor is, in fact, needed, then many insurance companies require a referral from your provider in order to grant coverage.
What are signs I should see an ENT?
If you are experiencing chronic or recurring issues with your ears, nose, or throat (or if you have concerns about a mass or lump) and your primary care physician recommends more specialized care, it’s a very good time to schedule an appointment with an ENT. If you feel that ENT services are necessary, but your PCP has not recommended it, we encourage you to start a conversation with them, and ask about a referral.
